The Outdoor Art Club is a private, nonprofit women's organization which was formed in 1902. Our mission is "To preserve the natural scenery of Mill Valley and the surrounding country, to beautify the grounds around public buildings, to work against the wanton destruction of birds and game, to encourage the development of outdoor art and to engage in other civic, literary and charitable work."

The Hannah Project of Marin City

Improved literacy, cultural awareness, community involvement -
it's all happening now with the Hannah Project.

Bettie Hodges, Executive Director, will discuss The Hannah Project, which is focused on improving academic outcomes and increasing the graduation rates of low-income ethnic minority students in the County. The project has awarded more than \$350K in scholarships to Marin City students, of whom 10 are pursuing advanced degrees and careers.
Organized in 2006, the Hannah Project initially focused on providing academic enrichment support to high school students. The Hannah Project now serves children and families between the ages of 8 and 22, and currently operates and funds Marin County's first Children's Defense Fund Freedom School in association with Marian Wright Edelman's national reading literacy program for elementary age children.
In 2012, the Executive Director created the Hannah Gallery, offering visual and performance art by professional and amateur artists with an emphasis on Afrocentric and multicultural expression. Youth and family programming includes an Open Art Studio for children as well as an Artist-in-Residence who instructs in dance, yoga and drama classes.
The goal is to transform the Hannah Gallery into a multicultural arts venue and a meeting place for dialogue and educational exchange. Other plans for The Gallery include hosting entertainment, including jazz nights, gospel cafes, and spoken word by local artists.
There's a lot of positive energy in Marin City thanks to the vision, resident engagement, and achievements of The Hannah Project. And this positive energy extends out to other Marin communities and African-Americans throughout the Bay area.
